Texas Book Festival
What a Great Festival!!

My family and I had a GREAT time at the Texas Book Festival in Austin, October 31st through
November 1st! We met several terrific authors, got some wonderful autographs and had fun learning
about some new books--and even learned how to make pop-ups from a paper engineer. How cool is
that? Check it out!

Judy Schachner - This terrific lady has illustrated and written
LOTS of great books. She shared her latest in the Skippyjon
Jones series,
Lost in Spice! What a silly little kitty thinking he's a
Chihuahua!

Mac Barnett - This inventive author leaves you guessing in his
new book-you think you've got the riddle figured out? Well,
Guess Again! I also LOVED his story Billy Twitter and His Blue
Whale Problem.

Jon Scieszka - You may know this funny guy through his
books
The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs!, The Stinky Cheese
Man
, or Math Curse. To encourage boys to read books, he
shared
Robot Zot! and a little about his literacy initiative for boys.

Brian Floca - Mr. Floca shared some great slides of art his
mother had saved from when his was a little boy. His art is
terrific and his newest book
Moonshot : The Flight of Apollo 11
is a terrific picture book that takes the reader into this amazing
mission to the moon.

Bruce Foster - Have you ever heard of a paper engineer? That
is this amazing artist's job when he is designing terrific pop-up
books. Did you know he designed the pop-ups for Disney's
Enchanted movie? Mr. Foster shared the stage with Mo Willems
to talk about their pop-up collaboration called
Big Frog Can't Fit
In
. He also taught a tent-full of children and parents how to make
their very own pop-up card! So cool!

Mo Willems - This creative author of the Pigeon series (and
other terrific books) was at the festival "live via Skype." So Mr.
Willems took us on a virtual tour of his studio while he discussed
working together with Bruce Foster for
Big Frog Can't Fit In. He
took questions from the audience, but his biggest encouragement
was for each of us to write our own stories! Great idea!
