Share Your Ideas for Using Professor Dewey... My Uncle, Professor Dewey, always said he got his best ideas from fellow teachers...so if you have a great idea about using Professor Dewey in your classroom or school, please email and share. Check back to see if your idea is posted and to get great ideas from fellow educators! Ideas for the Classroom... As students finish reading independently, make ProfessorDewey.com one of your workstations. Students can blog Professor Dewey about their book. You might even post some of the requirements for their blogs by the computer (Title, Author, summary, your favorite part, etc.) Use Professor Dewey certificates (Kids Resources) to encourage certain levels of home reading (15 minutes a night, 45 minutes a week, etc.) Have students who are reading a specific book or genre in a Literature Circle share their group's responses online at Professor Dewey's blog...you can read their posts without collecting papers or spirals. As students read books independently, have them post their recommendations on Professor Dewey's blog and encourage students to visit the blog for ideas before visiting the library to check out books. Have students create their own book commercials (even videotape them) and share them with the class or school (Professor Dewey may be able to post the videos on his site one day!) Create a "Professor Dewey Scavenger Hunt" in your classroom or school library to encourage kids to find "new" books. Give students clues that lead them to a specific book or section of books and "mark the spot" with Professor Dewey bookmarks! (Kids Resources) Be sure to visit the LINKS page for lots of online resources (and email if you have other suggestions!) |
